Just the other night, I was lying in bed, almost asleep, and it hit me. Aw Rats! I hadn’t done my sit for the day!  Old Deanna wouldn’t have given it a second thought. But, NEW Deanna, the Deanna with integrity, the Deanna that’s trying to form good habits, the Deanna who always keeps her promises knew what had to be done. So, out of bed I jumped.

Would it have been so bad to skip the sit this one time? Absolutely! Why? Because as Haanel tells us in Lesson 4-12 – “When we start something and do not complete it, or make a resolution and do not keep it, we are forming the habit of FAILURE, absolute, ignominious failure.” And since I’ve had enough of those F-bombs dropped on me in my life, I sure as heck am keeping my promises from here on out.

If you read my first MKMMA post, you know that this is my 2nd time through. Before my first experience, I was pretty bad at keeping promises. I’d do things like RSVP for an event and not show up. That doesn’t sound like a big deal, I know. People do it all the time. But for me, I saw it as being out of integrity.

Worse than that was I would tend to keep promises to other people, but not myself.  I’d promise to start exercising or to clean up my diet almost weekly, but I rarely followed through. What I instinctively knew every time I did this was that I didn’t value myself very much or think I was important enough to honor my own word.

Through the Master Key, I was at least able to make a giant leap forward in this area. My self-confidence is much higher, and I know that it’s just as important to keep a promise to myself as it is to honor one I give someone else. These days I stop and think before I make any new promises. I ask myself, “Will I be able to keep that promise, or is there a chance something will come up to derail it?” and “Do I even want to make that promise?” And if the answer to either of these questions is “no”, I don’t do it.

P.S. I’d love to hear about your experience with keeping promises or any other thoughts you have. Let me hear from you in the comments below.
